CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Charlotte, N.C., will host the 2013 Winter Meeting of the Republican National Committee in January, the Committee announced.
Although details of the agenda are still under consideration, the RNC's 168 members are scheduled to convene Jan. 23-26 at Charlotte's Westin hotel, the city's second major political gathering since September, when it hosted the Democratic National Convention, the Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday.
On Election Day, North Carolina elected its first Republican governor in 20 years, former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, and went Republican in the presidential race.
The RNC's decision to convene in North Carolina acknowledges "that we're the only swing state that went from blue to red," said Wayne King, state party vice chairman.
