AURORA, Colo., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A police officer called to an Aurora, Colo., by concerned family members Tuesday shot and killed a naked man who struck an officer with a weapon, police said.
City police Sgt. Cassidee Carlson said relatives called 911 for help about 12:55 p.m. because of the 55-year-old man's unusual behavior, The Denver Post reported. Paramedics who arrived at the home talked with the unclothed man but he "grew more and more agitated," Carlson said.
The man then withdrew to a back room and returned with a machete, prompting the paramedics to leave, the newspaper said.
Three police officers then went inside and found the man at the top of a staircase. Carlson said he struck two of the officers with either the machete or a knife, and one officer fired at least one shot, Carlson said.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The officers were not seriously injured.
The deceased man's name had not been released. Neighbors told the newspaper the family had moved into the home a few weeks ago.
