Saenz was flown to Los Angeles Friday and is in custody of the Los Angeles Police Department. Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI, said he is scheduled to be arraigned soon on murder charges.

Saenz, believed to be 36 or 37, allegedly shot two gang members in Los Angeles in 1998 and kidnapped, raped and killed his girlfriend a short time later. He is also a suspect in a 2008 homicide.

Investigators said he is believed to have crossed the border between California and Mexico frequently.
