AKRON, Ohio, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- An anarchist who led three cohorts in an unsuccessful plot to blow up an Ohio bridge was sentenced Tuesday to far less than the maximum for his role.
Douglas "Cyco" Wright, 26, was sentenced in Akron to 11 1/2 years in federal prison after pleading guilty in September to charges of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and use of an explosive device to destroy property used in interstate commerce.
Prosecutors sought a 30-year sentence for Wright, but were denied, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.
"I know the [prosecution] is going to disagree with that," U.S. District Judge David Dowd Jr. said of his decision. "But I think that it is an appropriate downward variance and likely will act as a deterrent against future criminal conduct."
Wright and three others were arrested April 30 after an undercover FBI investigation found they planned to use C-4 explosives blow up a bridge on Interstate 80 that carries fours lanes of traffic over Cuyahoga Valley National Park outside Cleveland, CNN said.
Brandon "Skabby" Baxter was previously sentenced to nine years in federal prison; Connor Stevens received an eight-year sentence. A fourth member is scheduled for sentencing later this month, The Plain Dealer reported.
