Lawyers prepare after parade accident

MIDLAND, Texas, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Two lawyers said they have been hired to represent victims of a Midland, Texas, collision between a speeding train and a parade float.

Kevin Glasheen and Bob Pottroff announced at a press conference Monday they will represent some of the victims in the Nov. 15 accident which killed four wounded veterans aboard the parade float, one of two on its way to a "Hunt for Heroes" banquet, and injured 16 others.

The truck pulling a flat-bed trailer entered the railroad crossing seconds after warning lights and bells were activated, the National Transportation Safety Board said, and was struck by a Union Pacific train traveling 62 mph.

The co-counsels have not yet filed lawsuits, but are representing two people who were aboard the parade float, the Midland Reporter-Telegram said Tuesday.

Dale Andrew Hayden, 50, the driver of the truck pulling the float, is under a physician's care, a lawyer representing the driver's employer said Monday.

"This has been a highly traumatic event for him," said Doug Fletcher, the attorney retained by truck owner Smith Industries, an oilfield equipment company that donated use of the truck to the event.

The truck driven by Hayden was escorted by police cars and was the last vehicle in the parade. A dashboard camera on a police car captured the accident, and was part of the evidence offered the NTSB, The Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.
