3 arrested following museum gold heist

MARIPOSA, Calif., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- The California Highway Patrol said three men have been arrested for allegedly stealing $1 million in gold from a mining museum.

The patrol said Edward Rushing III, 40, Matthew Campbell, 43, and Jonathan Matis, 41, have been charged with robbery-related counts Tuesday following the heist at the California State Mining and Mineral Museum in Mariposa, Calif., 150 miles east of San Jose.

Investigators said the trio went into the museum while it was open, smashed display cases and stole the precious metals and gems inside. Most of what they took was gold, the Sacramento Bee said.
