HOUSTON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- A Texas woman was allegedly driving drunk with four children in the car when she ran a light and got in an accident, seriously injuring the kids, police said.
Lourdes Lopez, 22, allegedly ran a red light on the Katy Freeway in Houston at 2:50 a.m. Sunday. She was driving a Jeep Liberty with five relatives when police said she ran the light. Her Jeep was struck by a pickup, then crashed into a utility pole. One of the four children, a 9-year-old boy, was ejected from the Jeep.
All four children were taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, The Houston Chronicle reported, as were Lopez and a 45-year-old male passenger. Police were unsure of the relationship of those in the Jeep.
Charges are pending against Lopez, the Chronicle said.
