Obama wins Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama won Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes Tuesday, MSNBC projected based on early results.

With just over half of the precincts reporting, Obama had 57 percent of the vote to 41.8 percent for Republican nominee Mitt Romney, the Secretary of State's office reported.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr., son of a former governor, defeated challenger Tom Smith, a millionaire mine owner making his first try for elective office. Casey had 58.6 percent of the vote to 39.7 percent for Smith, who ran a negative campaign attacking Casey as a member of the "political class."

In another significant statewide race, Kathleen Kane appeared to have won the race for attorney general. Kane, with 61.3 percent of the vote to 36.4 percent for Republican David Freed, would be the first woman and first Democrat elected to the office. The current attorney general, Linda Kelly, was appointed by Gov. Tom Corbett to fill his unexpired term.
