Crash near Sacramento kills four

ELK GROVE, Calif., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Four people were killed and seven were injured Sunday in a multi-vehicle collision on a freeway near Sacramento, firefighters said.

Cosumnes Fire Chief Tracey Hansen told The Sacramento Bee at least two of the injured were critically hurt in the crash, which occurred on Interstate 5 in Elk Grove.

Emergency crews at the scene told the Bee it appeared a sport utility vehicle driving northbound on I-5 south of Sacramento went out of control and careened into the northbound lanes, striking two oncoming cars.

The accident, which was under investigation, resulted in the full closure of northbound I-5 and a considerable traffic tie-up, the newspaper said.
