LANSING, Mich., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Two-term Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan appears safe to win a third term, a poll shows.

Stabenow holds a 21 percentage point lead over her opponent former U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra, 54 percent to 33 percent, a Detroit Free Press/WXYZ-TV poll shows.Stabenow has held a lead in all 13 state polls of Michigan taken in the last two months, the Free Press said.

Nearly 1 in 5 of her supporters are Republican, the poll showed, compared to Hoekstra, whose supporters are only 3 percent Democrats.

Stabenow enjoys a significant advantage in campaign resources, putting Hoekstra, who represented Holland, Mich., at a disadvantage, said Bernie Porn, the Lansing, Mich., pollster who conducted the survey.

"Hoekstra has never had the money to introduce himself to Michigan voters," Porn said.

The survey was conducted Friday to Monday and has a margin of error of 4 percent. Methodology of the poll and the number of respondents was not given.
