Police use Facebook to solve cold cases

KEY WEST, Fla., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- The Monroe County, Fla., Sheriff's Office said it will post data about unsolved homicide cases on a Facebook page, and welcome potential leads from readers.

The cold cases will be presented on "Florida Keys Missing and Unsolved," The Miami Herald reported Thursday.

"We hope by featuring these cases on Facebook, someone will see them and maybe remember something that will help us. Maybe someone who was originally reluctant to cooperate has grown up, or changed their mind. Maybe someone heard from a person reported missing and just didn't think to let us know," said Major Crimes Unit Sgt. Linda Mixon.

The first three on the Facebook page are homicide victims Lisa Sanders, 20, and Patty Lanza, 4, who were found in 1988, and an unidentified woman described as between 16 and 25, found in 1991. Each was found in the Florida Keys, police said.
