HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Former Penn State University President Graham Spanier has been charged with eight criminal counts relating to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
In court documents released Thursday, charges against Spanier included perjury, endangering the welfare of children, conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
The November 2011 grand jury presentment of findings against Sandusky, later convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse, noted Spanier "denied being aware of a 1998 university police investigation of Sandusky for incidents with children in football building showers."
Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly had said, from the earliest days of the Sandusky investigation, Spanier had not been cleared of any wrongdoing, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Thursday.
Additional criminal counts were also filed against retired Penn State Vice President Gary Schultz and suspended Athletic Director Tim Curley, who were charged with Sandusky in November of perjury. They now face additional charges of child endangerment and obstruction of justice, court documents said.
