CHICAGO, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, D-Ill., is casting an absentee ballot and has no plans to appear in public on election night, a consultant says.

Jackson, 47, has been on a medical leave from the Congress since June. But he is considered almost certain to win another term in his Chicago-area district, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Kevin Lampe, a political consultant in the Windy City, told the newspaper that Jackson has not scheduled anything for election night. Jackson, who spent several months at Sierra Tucson in Arizona and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., returned to Mayo Oct. 23 for what officials described as a followup evaluation.

He has been disagnosed as suffering from bipolar disease and from stomach trouble.
