Poll: Presidential race still a dead heat

WASHINGTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Tuesday showed 49 percent of likely voters support Republican Mitt Romney and 48 percent support President Obama.

The results, which do not include reaction to the third and final presidential debate Monday, show a statistically insignificant change from Monday's results, which showed Obama with a 49-48 lead.

Half of likely voters said they trust Romney on the economy, with 45 percent saying they trust Obama. Romney enjoyed a 12-point advantage on the economy among independents, but Obama was ahead by 7 points among likely voters when it came to which candidate empathized best with their economic situation.

Obama's approval/disapproval rating stood at an even 49-49.

The Post-ABC tracking poll is a series of one-night "waves" of interviews reported as a rolling average. The latest results come from interviews conducted Oct. 19-22 among 1,382 likely voters. The margin of error was 3 percentage points.
