Plane lands on highway instead of runway

RACINE, Wis., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A twin-engine plane headed for a landing at a Wisconsin airport touched down instead on an adjacent interstate highway near Racine, Wis., officials said.

The male pilot of the 1968 Beecher aircraft emerged unscathed but his female passenger was injured during the rough landing Monday evening, the Racine County Sheriff's Office told the Chicago Tribune.

A sheriff's spokesperson said the aircraft sustained "extensive damage" but did not strike any vehicles on the highway.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was registered to a company called Direct Action Aviation LLC out of Reno, Nev.
