Amber Alert issued for 10-month-old

UPPER MERION, Pa., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Pennsylvania police are continuing to search for a missing infant Tuesday who they say was taken after her grandmother was killed.

Police in Upper Merion, Pa., 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia, are looking for 10-month-old Saavni Venna, who was apparently kidnapped after her grandmother, Sathyavathi Venna, 61, was killed Monday afternoon. Police offered few details about the homicide and issued an Amber Alert for the child.

Police Chief Tom Dolan, asked by the Philadelphia Inquirer if other residents in the complex should be worried, downplayed the possibility of an ongoing threat to others living there.

"There is no concern with that right now," Dolan said,

Venna's father, Venkata, made a brief but emotional plea for his daughter's return.

"If someone finds my baby, could you please bring my baby back?" he pleaded.

The family recently immigrated from India. Both of Venna's parents are software engineers and Sathyavathi Venna had only been in America for a few months visiting and caring for the young child, the newspaper reported.
