WASHINGTON, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., said Sunday he thinks swing state Virginia will vote for President Obama because the state's economy is doing well.
In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," Warner said Virginia's 5.9 percent unemployment rate will help Obama, even though the state has a Republican governor.
"At the end of the day, ... the buck stops with the president as people have always said. Gov. Romney [wins] this thing, the economy is not coming back. We've seen Virginia's economy do pretty darn well," he said.
Former Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., said that's not enough for the president to win.
The economy is "certainly good in Northern Virginia, which is carrying, but you go ... down to Martinsville and some of these other places, it's still hurting in these areas. I think the president is going to pay a price," he said.
