Newborn's body found in Wash. state yard

OLYMPIA, Wash., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Investigators in Washington state say a body found in a backyard is believed to be a baby born to a teenager who concealed her pregnancy.

The remains were found Tuesday in Thurston County after the girl told a nurse at River Ridge High School about having delivered a baby, The Olympian reported. The 16-year-old said the baby was stillborn.

The girl said she did not tell anyone except the baby's 16-year-old father that she was pregnant. Police questioned both teenagers Tuesday.

The remains were found in the house where the father lives, Lt. Greg Elwin of the Thurston County Sheriff's Department reported.

Elwin said investigators are still unsure if there was any crime because there has been no finding on whether the baby was alive at birth. He said the couple could be charged with improper disposal of human remains.
