Murder suspect flees to Mexico

NEW YORK, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A man suspected of killing a youth soccer coach in New York Sunday has fled to Mexico, police said Wednesday.

Authorities were about to arrest Orlando Orea, 32, when he boarded an Air Mexico flight Tuesday. Police requested federal officials put his name on a no-fly list, but it was too late, WABC, New York, reported Wednesday.

Orea is a suspect in the killing of Michael Jones, 25, a Red Bulls youth program soccer coach. Jones was stabbed numerous times in the chest and neck in an attack near Union Square in Manhattan, the New York Daily News reported.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said detectives believe Jones, a West Harrison, N.Y., resident formerly of Liverpool, England, was mistaken for a man with whom the alleged killer had argued that morning in a nearby bar.
