Police said Ditka appeared intoxicated and was ordered to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. He refused a breath test, the Chicago Tribune reported.

While searching his vehicle, police found an unmarked bottle containing Hydrocodone pills. Ditka did not have a prescription for the narcotic.

Ditka was charged with possession of a controlled substance and aggravated DUI, both felonies, the newspaper reported.

Bail was set at $25,000, which Ditka was unable to post. He was being held at Lake County Jail.
