Obama campaign more efficient?

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- President Obama's campaign appears to be more efficient than Republican challenger Mitt Romney's as the U.S. presidential election approaches, observers said.

Politico reported Thursday that the Obama campaign has more employees and a smaller payroll. Obama is also bringing in more contributions than Romney in spite of spending less on fundraising.

The Los Angeles Times reported on the payroll figures of each campaign last month. It said total payroll for the 901 employees at Obama for America had come to $3.1 million, while the Romney campaign's 403 employees received $3.2 million.

Andrea Saul, a Romney spokeswoman, said the campaign is efficient.

"Our operation is constantly getting reviewed and optimized," she said.
