2 arrested in border patrol shooting

NACO, Ariz., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Two suspects have been detained in Naco, Mexico, in connection with the fatal shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol agent Nicholas Ivie, officials said.

A highly placed official confirmed the arrest, KPHO-TV, Phoenix, reported Wednesday.

Ivie was shot and killed early Tuesday about 7 miles east of Bisbee, Ariz., while investigating a ground sensor that had been triggered. Another border patrol agent, whose name has not been released, was injured and was discharged from the hospital Wednesday.

"The government of Mexico has been in constant communication with its U.S. counterparts since it received notification of the incident ..., and offered and has been providing all its support in the investigations," said Socorro Cordova, state press attache for the Mexican Consular Network in Arizona.

Kevin Goates, a spokesman for Ivie's family, thanked "all of those who have expressed their support and condolences."
