GAINSVILLE, Fla., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- The father of a missing Florida college student is calling on the FBI to join in the search for his son.

Christian Aguilar, 18, a student at University of Florida, disappeared Sept. 20 and his former best friend, Pedro Bravo, also 18, is being held on first-degree murder charges.

Bravo has told police he beat Aguilar but said he left him still alive in a parking lot. Police found drops of Aguilar's blood inside Bravo's car and Aguilar's backpack was found hidden at Bravo's home, The Miami Herald reported.

Aguilar's father Carlos asked the FBI Monday to join local law enforcement in Gainsville, Fla., in searching for his son. Police said the FBI has done analytical work on the case.

Carlos Aguilar is asking school officials to distribute fliers about his son in the hope someone has a clue to his whereabouts.

Bravo has refused to speak to police since being arrested following Aguilar's disappearance, the Herald reported.
