Teenager fatally shot by older brother

STOUGHTON, Mass., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A 17-year-old Massachusetts boy died after being shot by his older brother, officials said.

David Wade, of Stoughton, was with his 21-year-old brother, whose name was not reported, in the basement of their family home Saturday afternoon when he was shot, the Boston Globe reported.

Wade was rushed to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where doctors performed unsuccessful emergency surgery.

"It's fair to say that the family is extremely devastated and they are cooperating with police at this time," Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said Saturday night at a news conference.

The teen's brother obtained a gun license within the past couple of weeks and the gun used in the shooting belonged to a family member, the Boston Herald reported.

Morrissey said police were still investigating the shooting.

"We haven't ruled out an accidental shooting," Morrissey told the Herald. "This is a very, very unfortunate loss of life. My heart goes to the family."
