Boy, 8, to recover fully from snakebite

SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- The 8-year-old boy bitten by a rattlesnake at a school playground in the San Antonio area is expected to fully recover, school officials said.

Aubrey Chancellor, spokeswoman for the North East Independent School District, also said maintenance crews sprayed snake repellent around Longs Creek Elementary and that teachers will be assigned to specific playground areas to better monitor students, the San Antonio Express-News reported Wednesday.

The spokeswoman said the boy is enrolled in the after-school program at Longs Creek Elementary and was playing when he was bitten Tuesday.

The snake was captured and removed, Chancellor said.

Chancellor said parents were notified Wednesday and the principal during morning announcements told students what happened and how they could play safely outside, the Express-News said.
