IRVING, Texas, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- A Texas man who agreed with undercover officers to kill a drug lord for money was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Sengchann "China Man" Xayasith, 38, of Irving was sentenced after pleading guilty Monday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The undercover investigation found the self-proclaimed hit man was willing to kill someone the officers said was a rival drug dealer. Xayasith agreed to accept $5,000 in advance of the killing and officers promised another $10,000 after he'd completed the hit.

Tarrant County prosecutor D.J. Estes lauded the undercover investigators for the conviction, noting, "It sounds like something out of Dick Tracy."

Xayasith's lawyer said his client never intended to kill anyone and was only going along with the undercover officers to get money to feed a drug habit. During the course of the investigation, Xayasith was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, the newspaper reported.

"He has been a drug addict in the past, and he had a desire to obtain some money," defense attorney Rose Ann Salinas said. "He did make an agreement, a horrible mistake for him. There was never any intended victim."
