CHARDON, Ohio, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Accused teenage Ohio high school shooter T.J. Lane should be transferred from a juvenile detention facility to an adult lockup, a judge ruled.
Lane, accused of entering Chardon High School Feb. 27 and shooting six fellow students, killing three, will turn 18 on Sept. 19, and should be transferred from the Portage-Geauga Juvenile Detention Center in Ravenna to the Geauga County Safety Center in Chardon Sept. 24 unless "good cause can be demonstrated" why not, Geauga County Common Pleas Judge David L. Fuhry ruled Friday. The judge cited the proximity of the adult facility to the court as a reason for ordering the transfer.
Lane's attorneys have requested a change of venue for his trial. Defense attorney Anne Walton argued in a motion, "There is likely not a person who is of the age required to be a juror in Geauga County that hasn't been emotionally impacted" by the incident, the Willoughby News-Herald reported Wednesday.
