Security scare on U.S. Airways flight hoax

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A security scare on a U.S. Airways flight to Dallas from Philadelphia Thursday may have been a hoax, officials said.

Flight 1267 took off from Philadelphia International Airport 8:06 a.m. and was told to return to the airport shortly thereafter because of a potential security risk aboard the Airbus 319, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The plane landed at the airport shortly after 9 a.m. in a remote location, said U.S. Airways spokesman Davien Anderson.

The plane's 69 passengers and five crew members were escorted off the aircraft as authorities searched the plane, WPVI-TV, Philadelphia, reported.

One person, identified as a man named Christopher Shell, was taken off in handcuffs, WCAU-TV, Philadelphia, reported.

WCAU-TV said Shell was a victim of a hoax.
