NEW YORK, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch has been hospitalized for anemia, an aide said.
Koch, 87, has been "looking weak recently," said George Arzt, Koch's former press secretary.
Koch checked into Columbia-Presbyterian hospital at the urging of a doctor friend, the New York Post reported Wednesday. Hospital officials told the Post Koch will be released, possibly as early as Wednesday.
The 12-year Big Apple mayor underwent a quadruple bypass in 2009 after suffering a heart attack and stroke. He has remained politically active in the years since leaving the mayor's office and is still a force in New York City Democratic politics, the Post noted.
