Obama says not offended by Eastwood skit

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- President Obama says he's a fan of actor-director Clint Eastwood and wasn't offended by his comments during the Republican convention in Tampa, Fla.

"He is a great actor, and an even better director," Obama told USA TODAY aboard Air Force One as he traveled to campaign stops during the weekend. "I think the last few movies that he's made have been terrific."

The multiple Academy Award winner Eastwood created a stir Thursday with a 12-minute speech that included an "interview" with an empty chair he said was occupied by an invisible Obama.

"One thing about being president or running for president -- if you're easily offended, you should probably choose another profession," Obama said

Obama said a similar effort won't be replayed at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., this week, USA Today said Monday.

"I think we'll be playing this pretty straight," he said.
