Animal lovers killed by dogs

DECATUR, Ill., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A Georgia woman with a lifelong love of animals died of multiple dogs bite wounds while caring for dogs at her home, police said.

Rebecca Carey, 23, was found dead in her Decatur, Ga., home after she failed to arrive for work Sunday at Alpharetta's Loving Hands Animal Clinic. She had been living with five dogs, one a pit bull, and was caring for another, a large Spanish breed called a Presa, when her body was discovered by Jackie Cira, the Presa's owner, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.

Police officers initially thought they were dealing with a homicide, but it became clear Carey died of wounds sustained by dog bites, DeKalb County, Ga., police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

With the consent of Carey's parents, the dogs were euthanized Wednesday, Parish said.
