ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- An alleged Craigslist killer was in custody in St. Paul, Minn., Monday, charged in the shooting death of a man who answered an ad for a smartphone, police said.
Steve E. Lewis, 26, of Maplewood was charged with murder and aggravated robbery in the shotgun slaying of Hamline University computer science student Aung Thu Bo, 19, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.
A criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court indicated Bo's plan to buy an iPhone 4S from Lewis went sour Saturday after Bo and his girlfriend met up with him at a restaurant parking lot. Lewis allegedly told the pair the phone was at his home nearby and Bo reluctantly let him in his car for the trip.
The complaint states Lewis then demanded Bo give him his wallet. Despite Bo's plea that Lewis, "Take anything you want -- just leave us alone and go," a shot was fired, striking Bo in the head.
Lewis then allegedly jumped out and ran away, leaving the mortally wounded Bo and his girlfriend in the rolling car.
Lewis, who has four previous felony convictions, was arrested in the area by a police officer who responded to the call of a shooting, the Pioneer Press said.
