Request filed to expedite Kwame Kilpatrick case

DETROIT, July 30 (UPI) -- The family of a drive-by shooting victim requested their appeal of the civil lawsuit against former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick be expedited.

The family of Tamara Greene requested Friday the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals expedite oral arguments regarding the $150 million civil lawsuit against the city of Detroit and Kilpatrick for suppressing the investigation of Greene's death, The Detroit News reported.

"The events leading to this action occurred began 10 years ago, witnesses' memories have been fading, witnesses have died or disappeared, and documents have disappeared," Greene family lawyer Howard Lederman said in his request.

Greene, 27, was killed in a drive-by shooting April 30, 2003. She had previously been linked to a rumored party at the mayoral mansion in 2002.

The murder is currently unsolved, although multiple officers have said they believe Darrett King shot Greene. King has denied killing Greene and is currently serving 19-30 years in prison for unrelated crimes.
