Alleged torture killers denied bail

OKLAHOMA CITY, July 25 (UPI) -- Two men charged with first-degree murder in the torture and dismemberment slaying of a 19-year-old Oklahoma woman have been denied bond.

Jimmy Lee Massey Jr., 33, and Luis Enrique Ruiz, 37, both of Oklahoma City made their initial court appearances separately Tuesday via video from the Oklahoma County jail, The Oklahoman reported. Special Judge Russell Hall read the charges against the pair before denying them bail, the Oklahoma City newspaper said.

Massey and Ruiz were charged Monday in the October death of Carina Saunders of Mustang. A court affidavit alleges Ruiz sawed off her left foot and attempted to saw off her right foot. Massey was in jail on unrelated drug charges when he allegedly told two detainees details about the killing and related to one of them how he had been a participant, an affidavit stated.

Saunders' dismembered body was found in a duffel bag behind a Bethany grocery store.

The next court appearance for Massey and Ruiz will be Aug. 9.
