Civil rights group marches in Sanford

SANFORD, Fla., July 22 (UPI) -- Leaders of a march in Sanford, Fla., Saturday said they wanted to "wake up" people to the issue of race in the United States.

"We did not come here to mourn," said Art Rocker, chairman of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Florida, told the crowd. "We're here to wake up America. We're here to wake up Florida."

About 50 members of the SCLC took time off from their annual convention in Florida to visit Sanford, where black teenager Trayvon Martin was shot to death in a confrontation with a neighborhood watch volunteer.

The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel said the rally included a number of area clergy. "It's not about color; it's about Christ," veteran civil rights leader the Rev. C.T. Vivian told the crowd.
