White House seeks break for gay couples

WASHINGTON, July 21 (UPI) -- Under a rule change proposed Friday by the Obama administration, the children of U.S. government employees' same-sex partners would get health coverage.

The White House asked the Office of Personnel Management in 2009 to extend some benefits to same-sex partners, Politico reported. The office determined that the Affordable Care Act, which allows children to remain on their parents' health insurance to the age of 26, provided a vehicle for the coverage.
