Lawsuit: 'Repressed memories' planted

ST. LOUIS, July 19 (UPI) -- Three women now charge they were brainwashed at a St. Louis-area psychiatric facility into believing that they had repressed memories of childhood sexual abuse.

Brooke Taylor of St. Louis has joined a lawsuit against Castlewood Treatment Center filed by two Minnesota women, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. She said she was treated for an eating disorder at Castlewood in 2010 and became convinced during the three months she spent there that she had been molested as a child and was suffering from multiple personalities.

"A lot of demons were put in my head," she said.

In a statement, Castlewood described itself as specializing in "eating issues involving post-traumatic stress often caused by sexual abuse."

"This lawsuit simply piggybacks on publicity generated by earlier false and outrageous allegations," the statement said. "We will defend this case vigorously, confident that the facts will underscore Castlewood's professionalism and excellence in patient care."
