LOS ANGELES, July 14 (UPI) -- A judge ordered Lenny Dykstra to appear for sentencing Dec. 3 after the former baseball star pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to money-laundering and fraud.
Dykstra, 49, is in a California state prison on a separate auto theft count and now faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison, CNN said.
Dykstra was indicted in 2009 for selling and destroying $400,000 in assets in a bankruptcy case without the permission of the trustee. Some of the items sold included a collection of baseball memorabilia.
Dykstra played for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies in the 1980s and early 1990s. A three-time all-star, he became a financial adviser after retiring. He appeared to be on a roll until the mortgage market collapsed and forced him into bankruptcy in 2009.
