STATE COLLEGE, Pa., July 3 (UPI) -- The family of the late Joe Paterno, the longtime Penn State football coach, wants all e-mails about the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal released.

A statement issued by lawyer Wick Sollers said recent leaked e-mails "have been selected in a calculated way to manipulate public opinion," The Centre Daily Times reported. The family said the state Attorney General's Office and a team headed by former FBI Director Louis Freeh that is working for the university should release all e-mails.

"With the leaking of selective e-mails over the last few days, it is clear that someone in a position of authority is not interested in a fair or thorough investigation," the statement released Monday said.

Paterno died of lung cancer in January, two months after he was fired. He had been at Penn State since 1950, mostly as head football coach.

A report on CNN last Friday suggested that Paterno had been involved in the decision not to go to the police after Mike McQueary, then a graduate assistant, reported seeing Sandusky in a locker-room shower with a boy.

The CNN report included an e-mail allegedly sent by Tim Curley, then the Penn State athletic director: "After giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday, I am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble with going to everyone but the person involved. I would be more comfortable meeting with the person and tell them about the information we received and tell them we are aware of the first situation."

Sandusky was convicted June 22 on 45 counts of sexual abuse.
