MILWAUKEE, June 20 (UPI) -- Two sports agents have sued a Milwaukee man, alleging he deceived them into believing he was a professional baseball player.
The two agents said 28-year-old Montaous Walton illegally solicited about $6,000 worth of property from them, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday.
In the complaint, Travis Bell, the California-based chief executive officer of the Seven Bridges Group, said Walton initially contacted him in August saying he was a roster invitee to the Toronto Blue Jays' 2012 spring training. The company signed on to represent Walton in September and supplied the man with $4,539 worth of goods and services before he gave them his Blue Jays contract, which Bell determined to be fabricated.
Walton then allegedly contacted Colin Cummins, a former Seven Bridges employee who founded his own sports management agency, Red Eye Sports in Ontario, Canada, the newspaper said.
In early 2012, Walton signed a contract with Cummins, who, one month later, was tipped off to Walton's alleged deceit by an e-mail from Bell.
Cummins said the Blue Jays contract Walton gave him was "sketchy."
"My 7-year-old daughter could have written it, to be honest," Cummins said.
Major League Baseball and Toronto Blue Jays officials said Walton had never been a member of their organizations. Walton's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
