WEXFORD, Pa., June 20 (UPI) -- A former employee of an Acura dealership in Wexford, Pa., Wednesday faced more than six years in prison for embezzling $10 million.
Patricia Smith was convicted of electronically transferring funds from the dealership's online account to her own personal account during her seven years at the company, WTAE, Pittsburgh, reported.
Smith used the money to buy four homes, 10 cars, Super Bowl tickets and a reported $1.8 million in private jet travel. Her official salary at the dealership was about $50,000.
Smith said in court she stole the money because she wanted to earn the love of her family and friends. She told them she got rich investing in airline stock.
Smith was sentenced to 78 months in prison and three years of probation. She also was ordered to pay $10,349,569.14 in restitution.
