Stolen truck returned with body

MIAMI, June 19 (UPI) -- A truck stolen from a Miami man's driveway was returned to an adjacent lot with a body wrapped in two plastic bags, police said.

Jesus Rodriguez said he believes a copy of his truck key was stolen three weeks ago at a basketball game, after which he noticed the gas level in his truck was noticeably lower in the mornings, leading him to believe his truck was being stolen overnight and returned in the morning, ABC News reported Tuesday.

Rodriguez called police to his suburban neighborhood of Homestead Monday when he discovered his truck was missing. He said when police arrived at 2 a.m. they saw a man return the truck to the lot next door with the body wrapped in plastic.

"He brought the truck back to the vacant lot next door. I came out with my gun drawn. The police saw me and together we went up and we saw the body in two plastic bags. The guy took off running and both of us pursued," Rodriguez told ABC News.

Homestead spokesman Detective Fernando Moralez said police confirmed the discovery of the vehicle and body but would not confirm whether a suspect was pursued.

"No, I do not think police pursued a suspect," Moralez said.

The investigation was turned over to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
