Powell to appeal voyeurism conviction

TACOMA, Wash., June 19 (UPI) -- Steven Powell, father-in-law of Susan Powell, who has been missing since 2009, has filed an appeal of his convictions for voyeurism.

Powell filed a notice of appeal Monday in Pierce County, Wash., Superior Court, after a sentencing hearing Friday began with arguments to have two of his 14 voyeurism convictions dismissed. He was sentenced to 30 months in jail and 36 months of probation for photographing two neighbors, girls then 8 and 9, in the bathroom of their Puyallup, Wash., home, The Salt Lake (City, Utah) Tribune, reported Tuesday.

The appeal hinges on an allegedly illegal search for evidence of Powell's home, said Mark Quigley, one of Powell's lawyers.

Powell's son, Josh Powell, was a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife, Susan, in 2009. On Feb. 5 Josh Powell killed his two sons and himself in a house fire in Graham, Wash., the newspaper said.
