Pa. woman charged with addicting child

BEAVER SPRINGS, Pa., June 16 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania woman faced charges Saturday of providing her teenage daughter with heroin and other drugs beginning when she was 12 years old, prosecutors said.

Brandi Baumgardner, 40, of Beaver Springs was arrested this week on charges of endangering and corrupting a minor after her daughter, now 14, told a counselor at a rehabilitation center she had been given everything from marijuana to crack and heroin by her mom over two years.

Court documents said a 22-year-old man also was arrested for allegedly having sex with the girl in exchange for drugs.

The Daily Item in Sunbury, Pa., said the case had been under investigation by the state police since August when the girl reportedly checked into rehab, claiming she was too strung out to even inject herself with heroin.

The documents said the girl and her mom would routinely share various drugs. She alleged Baumgardner would take her to hospitals where she would fake illness in order to score prescription narcotics.
