SANFORD, Fla., June 12 (UPI) -- Shellie Zimmerman, the wife of the neighborhood watch volunteer accused of killing unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, was arrested for perjury Tuesday.

Seminole County sheriff's deputies said bond was set at $1,000, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Zimmerman is accused of lying about her husband's finances to conceal $135,000 from the court. Her husband, George Zimmerman, faces second-degree murder charges in Martin's shooting death. George Zimmerman has pleaded innocent.

Martin's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, showed up at a church Tuesday where a task force is studying what to do about the state's "stand your ground law."

The parents are urging the adoption of an amendment to the law barring pursuers from claiming "stand your ground" protections.

George Zimmerman initially was not arrested in Martin's February shooting based on "stand your ground." He had followed Martin because he thought the youth was suspicious even though a police dispatcher advised him to wait for officers to arrive. He told police Martin attacked him.
