Boy Scouts uphold ban on homosexuals

ORLANDO, Fla., June 7 (UPI) -- Boys Scouts of America said a petition submitted supporting gay leaders and scouts will have no immediate impact on scout policy.

The organization bans gay leaders and scouts, and officials said the petition submitted by would be referred to committee, as have previous petitions on the issue, USA Today reported. spokesman Michael Jones said the petition was signed by more than 275,000 people, many of them current and former scouts.

Boy Scouts spokesman Deron Smith said a private meeting would be set up with "as a courtesy." He said no further action would be taken until the next national Boy Scout meeting in 2013.
