KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 3 (UPI) -- As many as 20 bus passengers say they were locked inside a Kansas City, Mo., bus station for six hours waiting for a bus that never came.
Kansas City Police received a call Sunday morning to the El Conejo Bus Lines station where there were told 15 to 20 passengers had been locked inside the terminal and were not able to leave, The Kansas City Star reported.
Phil Robertson, an auxiliary driver for the bus company, said the matter was largely a misunderstanding.
"They [the passengers] are upset. They're frustrated and rightfully so," he said.
Robertson said the passengers were traveling from Omaha to Kansas City Saturday when their bus broke down. Passengers were scheduled to make a connection in Kansas City at 10 p.m. Saturday, but the breakdown caused them to miss the connection.
The bus arrived in Kansas City around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
The passengers stayed in the bus station for the duration of the night and were accompanied by a a bus line employee, Robertson said.
Police said they are trying to determine whether the were locked inside the station.
"To my knowledge, I don't think so," Robertson said. "I know we always have an exit door that has a key."
"It was a long, long wait," Robertson said. "We're serving them breakfast now."
