DENVER, May 31 (UPI) -- A Colorado-based company that produces edible products infused with medical marijuana says it hopes to expand its business nationally.
Dixie Elixers & Edibles offers THC-laced sparkling beverages, chocolate truffles, crispy rice treats, fruit lozenges, capsules and droplets to medical marijuana customers who choose not to smoke the drug, The Denver Post reported Thursday.
Colorado law prevents manufacturers from distributing THC-laced products across state lines, but the company said it plans to expand nationally through a licensing deal that will enable its products to be sold in other states.
The edible products, says Dixie owner and managing director Tripp Keber, are ideal for patients who don't wish to light up for social and health reasons.
"If I needed to medicate, I would never consider lighting up in front of my 11-year-old daughter," Keber said. "A 70-year-old grandmother with glaucoma [might] never consider smoking but will put a couple of drops of elixir in her soup."
Dispensary owner Max Cohen said that while most of his customers prefer smoking marijuana, sales of edible marijuana is growing.
"There are some people who don't like to smoke, and it's easier for them to consume edibles," he said.
