Mother accused of stabbing infant

BALTIMORE, May 22 (UPI) -- A Maryland woman was indicted by a Baltimore grand jury for allegedly stabbing her 8-month-old daughter in the head and neck, prosecutors said.

Kenisha Thomas, 29, is being held without bail, The Baltimore Sun reported Monday. Her arraignment is scheduled for June 17.

Police said Thomas's baby was previously removed from her care by social services. When she visited the social services office on April 24, Thomas allegedly smuggled in a large kitchen knife, which she used to brutally stab the infant repeatedly in the head and neck, police said. Office employees fought back, said the police report, with one even throwing a chair at Thomas.

When employees finally managed to disarm and restrain Thomas, she allegedly told onlookers, "If I can't have her, nobody will." The baby, named Pretty Diamond, survived.

Thomas is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, second-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment and carrying a deadly weapon with the intent to injury.
