2 possible suspects in gospel icon assault

DETROIT, May 18 (UPI) -- Police said they have identified two suspects in the assault, robbery and carjacking of Detroit gospel music icon Rev. Marvin Winans.

Although police said four people were involved in the Wednesday attack, they have identified two and submitted an arrest warrant to Wayne County Prosecutor's Office Thursday.

The two suspects will not be identified until prosecutors sign the warrants, police told The Detroit Free Press.

While pumping gas at a CITGO gas station Wednesday, Winans was struck in the face, kicked and robbed of his Louis Vuitton wallet containing $200, a gold wristwatch worth $15,000, after which assailants made off with his 2012 purple Infiniti SUV.

Detroit Free Press reported police have since recovered the SUV in "good condition" next to an abandoned house.
